Eden 2025
I got a free ticket to this movie, so I didn't ask a lot of questions beforehand. I'm glad I went because the (fictionalized) events of the movie took place circa 1938 on the island of Floreana in the Galapagos Islands, a place I actually visited. It seems like at the time I heard the gossipy story about what happened then, but I couldn't have told you anything. It seems like Ron Howard got the same story, but he chose to make a movie about it. Then he got Jude Law to star in along with Vanessa Kirby (who is in everything now) as well as Ana de Armas, Daniel Bruhl, and Sydney Sweeney. The cast is very good. The story itself is dark as these eccentric people flee "civilization" to realize their dreams of independence and freedom, all to have things get a little bit like classic Survivor. We've seen characters like this before, like in Mosquito Coast, Lord of the Flies, and no doubt tons of others, but it's still interesting watching this literal struggle to survive in a very hostile environment, plus survive your neighbors when they are out to get you. Reviews have been positive, but not great. I really liked it though, partly because I had visited there (literally one day of a cruise). Once I watched it I read up on the true events, but they are fairly murky.
