Roofman 2025
This movie seemed interesting from the previews, about a burglar hiding out in a Toys R Us for months. It is based on a true story, which often means that a lot of things are made up, but at least most of the larger points seem to be true. While a lot of things happen, it doesn't take long to tell all of that, with the result being that the movie feels padded with not particularly interesting personal interactions as this guy ventures out of the store and gets romantically involved with Kirsten Dunst, a single mom at a local church (where they sing Randy Newman songs!). The characters are likeable, but as things continue, you kind of guess how things have to end. Channing Tatum is good, but it feels like a contradiction that he is such a nice guy and yet wholeheartedly engaging in criminal activity. It is still a neat movie to watch and has a bit of an independent feel despite some big names in the cast. The basic story is hard to beat, but it is spread a little too thin and the movie falters as a character study.
